THE FOOD PROJECT
Donation News: Foundation Realty Group will be making a donation to the Food Project this month!
Right here in Boston, teenagers are changing our food system. Every year, at The Food Project, over 140 young people from diverse backgrounds come
together to work on farms and in communities to grow healthy food for people from all walks of life. In the process, they also grow as individuals and as
a team, and discover that they can make a difference in the world.
In the hands of The Food Project youth, vacant lots become vibrant, productive farms. Hundreds of raised bed gardens are installed for residents
and community groups so that they can safely grow their own food in the city. Farmers' markets are springing up in historically underserved
neighborhoods, and fresh, affordable, locally grown food is becoming more readily available.
Teenagers from The Food Project, working with adults and thousands of volunteers, grow food on over 40 acres of urban and suburban farms in
Eastern Massachusetts. The annual harvest of nearly 250,000 pounds of sustainably grown produce is distributed through multiple channels: at
affordably priced farmers' markets; through donations to hunger relief organizations; and through a community supported agriculture program with
drop-off sites in several Boston neighborhoods as well as on-farm pick-ups in Lincoln and Beverly.
The Food Project is a model for a fair, sustainable, youth-powered local food system, and has inspired hundreds of similar programs around the
country.
